On July 19th, 2018, Alka was the victim of a hit-and-run accident in her own shop’s parking lot. She had just finished watering her plants and was walking back towards her car to go home after a long day’s work. As she was walking back, a young driver hit Alka, and ran over her legs. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where they found she had a fractured clavicle, hip, and femur.
She spent 12 days at Baylor Scott & White hospital where she went through multiple rounds of physical therapy along with pain management. Thankfully, she had an excellent medical team and was discharged without further complications.
The recovery is expected to take at least 6 months but the hospital bill and physical therapy bills are overwhelming. She is still not able to walk and take care of herself but she remains positive.
After losing her husband in 2001 due to a hate crime, she’s worked hard to keep her late husband’s business afloat, all by herself whilst raising their 2 children. Even after this tragic event, Alka still finds it in her heart to thank God every day that she’s alive and that she didn’t have to leave her 2 children alone.
